Healthy Sleeping

Italy approaches sleep with the “sanodormire” principle: healthy sleeping.

Unhealthy sleeping is all-too-common in the world and caused by a variety of factors, but the biggest one is most likely the mattress (and frame) being used.

To improve the quality of your sleep, we suggest that you think about the following when it comes to choosing the right mattress:

Height

It’s the end of a long day. You’re tired and you just want to crawl into bed and sleep already. Unfortunately, getting into bed requires more effort than necessary since you have to jump, leap or use stairs to reach the top.

Think Italian when it comes to the height of the mattress. You should be able to comfortably sit on the edge of the bed, feet still touching the floor and knees bent at a 90° angle. We aren’t referring to the thickness of the mattress, but rather the measurement from the floor to the mattress top. Getting into bed should be simple! You’re tired, so you deserve it.

Mattress Cover

Remember that the material covering your mattress is an important factor to help you sleep healthy. Be sure to purchase a quality mattress cover that will can easily be washed in the washing machine, which helps you to maintain a clean sleeping environment.

Some common, quality mattress cover materials include the following:

  • cotton
  • silk
  • linen
  • wool
  • bamboo
  • cashmere

The Frame

A mattress isn't going to be effective if it doesn't have the proper base to rest on.

There are various types of mattress frames: wooden, metal, slatted or motorized. Some mattresses should not rest on certain frames, so make sure to take this into consideration when you plan on buying a new mattress. If you would like to keep your existing frame, find out if it will sustain the new mattress and provide the proper support for it.

Test Before You Buy

It's important to test a mattress before you buy it, but this can sometimes be an overwhelming task. Just remember to ask yourself these questions when testing out different mattresses:

  1. Do you feel comfortable as soon as you lay on the mattress?
  2. Is it silent?
  3. When laying in various sleeping position(s), do you feel well supported?
  4. Is it made of durable, quality materials?
  5. Does the mattress come with a good guarantee?

The quality of your sleep can make or break the quality of your day. Be sure to invest the proper time and energy into choosing the right mattress so you can enjoy the same sanodormire principle that is embraced in Italy.
